The ordeals of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello after he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continue with the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, ordering the immediate withdrawal of all police officers attached to him.

The decision was communicated through a police wireless message: “IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

“Acknowledge compliance and treat with utmost importance. Please, above, for your information and strict compliance.”

Simultaneously, an internal security document issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has placed Bello under scrutiny. The circular, dated April 18, 2024, was authored by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, for the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap.

It revealed: “I am directed to inform you that the above-named person has been placed on the watch list,” highlighting Bello’s potential flight risk amid ongoing legal challenges.

Further intensifying the legal pressures, the statement from NIS adds that Bello is currently facing prosecution before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The charges include conspiracy, breach of trust, and money
laundering, according to a letter referenced CR; 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/TE/Vide/1/279 also dated April 18, 2024.

The notice issued by the NIS mandates that, “If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action.”
