Police arrest 2 men for defiling, kidnapping 6-yr-old girl, boy in Niger

The police in Niger state have arrested one Lukman Aliyu 20yrs for allegedly  defiling a six- year-old girl while she was returning from school. 

The police have also arrested another man, Genesis Yaryok Sunday, for the kidnap of a six-year- old boy in Sabon-Wuse area of Tafa local government of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger state Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed these in a statement in Minna on Friday. 

He said eight other suspects were arrested for various criminal offences including robbery and phone snatching.

In the case of Lukman Aliyu, the PPRO said the matter was reported at Ibeto Police outstation under Nasko Division on 30/1/2025, adding that the victim was raped on 29/1/2025 at about 2pm, and got home from school with suspected blood stains on her body.

“When she was questioned, she alleged that one Lukman Aliyu (20) of Ibeto defiled her at a nearby bush while she was on her way home from school,” police said. 

SP Abiodun said that the suspect was immediately arrested and he confessed to the crime, adding that the victim was taken to General Hospital Nasko for medical attention. 

The PPRO said Genesis Yaryok Sunday, a neighbour to the six-yr-old boy, was arrested after the missing boy was found in the Jere area of Kaduna state. 

“On 30/1/2025 at 10.30am, a direct complaint was received at Tafa Div that a six-yr-old boy was missing from Ungwar-Gwari, Sabon-Wuse Tafa LGA since on 29/1/2025 at about 2pm. Fortunately, around 3pm of the same date, the said missing boy was found at Jere area of Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State and he was taken to the nearest police station within the area”

He said in the course of an investigation, one Genesis Yaryok Sunday (27) of Kafanchan, Kaduna state, living in the same area in Sabon-Wuse was arrested in connection with the incident, adding that “he confessed that he abducted the boy and took him to Idah, along Kaduna Road, where he kept him.”

According to the police, the suspect confessed that he intended to collect N200, 000 as ransom from the mother of the victim.
