Pillars crumble in Aba as Doma stun Akwa United in Uyo

Enyimba pulled a five-star performance in the match day 28 fixture of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League as they defeated Kano Pillars 5-0 yesterday.

The scoring streak started early in the game, as Eze Ekwutoziam scored in the 13th minute, setting the tone for Enyimba’s pervasive attack.

Mbaoma Chijioke, a midfielder, added a goal in the 35th minute to extend Enyimba’s lead.

Just before halftime, Joseph Atule increased the lead with a goal in the 44th minute, leaving Kano Pillars with a difficult second half.

The winger, who had one goal and a poor start to the season in 24 games, has 5 goals and two assists in his last six starts for the defending champions.

Enyimba’s dominance continued after the interval, with Atule scoring his second goal of the game in the 69th minute, demonstrating his ability on the pitch.

Enyimba clinched their victory in style, with Alade Muyiwa scoring in the 90th minute after a lovely assist from Izuogu Chibueze, securing a 5-0 victory over Kano Pillars.

In the other games played, Abia Warriors defeated Plateau United 1-0 with Obi Samson scoring the only goal of the game while Bayelsa United had to wait till the 92nd minute to secure all three points through Fabby Clark against Heartland FC.

Also, Enugu Rangers ensured Sunshine Stars went back to Ondo State empty with Kalu Nweke and Onyebuchi Ifeanyi scoring in the 2-0 victory just as Doma United defeated Akwa United 1-0 away.

In Lagos, Sporting Lagos were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Lobi Stars. Junior Lokosa had opened the scoring in the 31st minute for the home side before Samuel Tiza Iorwuese ensured the points were shared in the 59th minute.

Similarly, Bendel Insurance lost 1-3 at home to Niger Tornadoes while Shooting Stars defeated Kwara United 2-0.
