The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kaduna State chapter, has urged the committee set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to investigate the expenditure of the past administration of Nasir El-Rufai to focus on the mass sacking of over 27,000 workers without payment of their entitlements and the alleged disruption of the civil service in the state.

In a statement signed by Abraham Alberah Catoh, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, who extended felicitations to workers in the state on the occasion of the 2024 Workers’ Day, emphasised the need for the investigative committee to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the mass layoffs and the state of the civil service under the previous administration.

The PDP reiterated its commitment to supporting good governance and alleviating the challenges faced by workers across all sectors.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Lagos has demanded a forensic audit of the administration of the Lagos State Water Corporation, dating back to its establishment in 1990. This demand comes in response to the recent mass sack of contract staff by the state government.

NLC’s state chairperson, Comrade Agnes Sessi, expressed disappointment over the mass sack, describing it as devoid of proper procedure and legal instruments governing disengagement. She emphasised that the innocent staff affected by the sack were not involved in any misappropriation or siphoning of funds within the corporation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his address during the Workers’ Day celebration, reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the state’s workers.

He affirmed his government’s dedication to building a more inclusive and equitable society where the interests of workers are prioritised, ensuring that every worker is respected, empowered, and able to live with dignity.
