No fewer than 6,945 mass atrocities comprising killings and abductions have been recorded under President Bola Tinubu-led administration within 11 months, a report released by the Global Rights has shown.

The report, which was released to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, by the Executive Director of Global Rights, Abiodun Baiyewu, showed that 3,707 were killed between May 29 and April 23 while 3,238 were abducted.

Daily Trust reports that Global Rights, an international human rights organisation, works at the intersection of the protection, promotion and fulfilment of human rights through good governance.

The report, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, listed ethic and religious divisions; political interest and power struggles; poor regard for rule of law; economic disparities, out-of-school children, unemployment among others as the drivers of the mass atrocities.

It also stated that at least 137 election-related killings were documented and verified while 57 election-related abductions were recorded, adding that at least, 38 election-day killings were recorded by the Incident Centre for Election Atrocities (ICEA).

Speaking on the report, Baiyewu noted that the numbers quoted in the data were minimum, which the organisation tracked all the cases across all the six geo-political zones and went ahead to verify the authenticity of the atrocities before it was made public.
