Former Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described old students’ associations as critical stakeholders in the education sector.
He therefore called for concerted and deliberate efforts to support governments to develop schools, adding that government cannot do it alone.
Amosun stated this while speaking with newsmen at the 70th founders day celebration of his alma mater, African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, held weekend.
The former lawmaker, a recipient of the school’s most dinstiguised alumnus award, noted that legislative framework must be provided to assist such associations to thrive
“This will continue to guide those that become after us, so congratulations to all of you, welldone and we will continue to do our bits to compliment government efforts
“Let me in a special way thank all the club sets. If you look around you will see different clubs sets contributing their quota to their alma mater, and giving back to their roots institutions.
“Even if you go the Ivy college or the 0, you will see different sets either building roads, it’s like a community on it’s own and I am happy that we have emulated that. We are not where we should be but we will continue to do our bit to compliment the efforts of the government in the education sector “, he said.
Other old students honored at the event include, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, in Osun State, Barrister Mutiu Agboke, MD/CEO of Federal Housing Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, Mr. Adewale Olutayo, and Prince Abdulhakeem Ajasa, among others
Amosun later commissioned some projects undertaken by the old students which includes, an astro turf football pitch, science laboratory, and the entrace gate.
