Nyanya Residents Laud Wike Over Restoration Of Portable Water

Seven months after the pipeline conveying potable water to residents of Nyanya and Karu got damaged, hope glows for the possible restoration of water to the areas any moment from now.
The contractor handling the project, Messrs CGC Nig Ltd is set to finish the repairs of the damaged pipeline next month.

A staff working with the contractors, who did not want his name in print, said the draining of the debris that had clogged the burst pipeline has been completed, new pipes have been laid and its accessories are being put in place to guide against a recurrence.

He commended the FCT minister Nyesom Wike for making funds available and ensuring the monitoring of the completion of the project.

He said residents of Nyanya and Karu, the satellite towns should be ready to start enjoying potable water in earnest before the end of next month.

In the meantime, some of the residents who got wind of the possible completion of the project commended Wike for making it a priority project.

One of the residents, Julius Emeka said it was a welcome development if portable water could be restored to Nyanya. “We have suffered a lot for seven months running, we have been depending on water hawkers for survival,” he said.

Another resident, Oladimeji Hassan, in Karu site, narrated how residents had been spending thousands of Naira to buy water both for drinking and house chores from sources that might not be hygienic.

A mother of two and one of the excited residents, Ngozi Amaechi, also commended the contractor on site for not abandoning the project.
