NURTW warns Makinde of MC Oluomo’s alleged plot to destabilise Oyo

The Oyo State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Abideen Olajide, popularly known as Ejiogbe, has cautioned Governor Seyi Makinde to be wary of the alleged activities of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also called MC Oluomo, in Oyo State.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan on Thursday, Ejiogbe, who also serves as a national trustee of the NURTW, claimed that MC Oluomo, alongside Samuel Kayode Agbeyangi, recently held meetings in Ibadan with a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in an attempt to create unrest within the state’s transport sector.

According to Ejiogbe, “These individuals visited Ibadan and had several meetings, including one with a PDP leader. We have credible information that their mission is to escalate the crisis within the NURTW by leveraging political backing to gain access to the governor.”

He further stated that the move was part of a larger plan to incite tension in motor parks and destabilise Ibadan and the state. Ejiogbe dismissed the need for any external group to plead on behalf of the union, expressing confidence in Governor Makinde’s administration and ongoing discussions for a resolution.

“We don’t need any illegal group to intervene on our behalf. Governor Seyi Makinde is our leader, and we are in dialogue with him, hoping for a positive resolution that will allow us to contribute to the state’s revenue,” he said.

Ejiogbe described Akinsanya and Agbeyangi as “outlawed individuals” within the union’s leadership structure, emphasising that legal processes were already in place to resolve the union’s disputes with the government.

He assured that the NURTW in Oyo State remains law-abiding, stating, “We have been engaged in this struggle for six years, and we have never resorted to violence. We have always chosen dialogue and legal means to address our grievances.”

He urged Governor Makinde to resist any attempts by external forces to disrupt the peace in Oyo State, reiterating the union’s commitment to Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa as the rightful national president of the NURTW.

“We stand firmly with Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, who is the legitimate president of the NURTW, as recognised by law and widely accepted across the Southwest and the entire country,” Ejiogbe concluded.
