Floating corpses: Abia community yet to report to us – Police

The Abia State Police Command has stated that it has yet to receive any report from the people of Oriendu Autonomous Community regarding the reported discovery of floating corpses in the community’s river, even as of Monday.

This position was made known on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka.

DAILY POST recalls that the traditional ruler of Oriendu Autonomous Community in Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, was recently quoted as saying that about thirty unknown corpses had been discovered floating in the Imo River, which is located in a boundary area between the community and Imo State, between 2024 and 2025.

The monarch, who said that the sordid discovery has created fear in his community, noted that the killers of the victims remain unknown. He appealed to the state government and security agencies to take immediate action in apprehending those responsible for the crime.

However, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who spoke to DAILY POST on Monday about the matter, stated that there was no record of any report from Oriendu community or individuals from the community informing the police about the corpses found in their river, even as of Monday, February 24.

“Till now, no official report,” she said.

The PPRO, who emphasized that such a matter should have been officially brought to the attention of the police, added that no indigene of Oriendu had been reported missing or dead inside the river, which is located between Oriendu and a neighboring community in another state.
