No plan to establish foreign military bases in Nigeria – FG

The federal government has refuted claims regarding the establishment of foreign military bases on its soil.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, categorically denied the existence of any discussions between Nigeria and foreign nations about hosting military installations.

In a press statement released on Monday, Idris addressed what he described as “false alarms” and urged the public to disregard such unfounded allegations.

The statement emphasized that the Federal Government has not entertained, nor is it contemplating, any offers to site foreign military bases within the country’s borders.

The statement read in part, “The Federal Government is not in any such discussion with any foreign country. We have neither received nor are we considering any proposals from any country on the establishment of any foreign military bases in Nigeria.

“The Nigerian government already enjoys foreign cooperation in tackling ongoing security challenges, and the President remains committed to deepening these partnerships, with the goal of achieving the national security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The clarification comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to bolster security and stability, for which it has sought international cooperation.”
