Civil servants on the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Tuesday morning, trooped out en mass across the States of the federation to begin a two-day nationwide protest over the prevailing economic hardship and high cost of living in the country.

The NLC national leadership had last week issued a notice of a two-day nationwide protest slated for February 27 and 28 over what it called sufferings by Nigerians especially workers occasioned by insecurity and fuel subsidy removal policy of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, is leading the workers on a protest match, which kick-started at the Labour House national headquarters of the Congress in Abuja, to terminate at the National Assembly complex.

Also, our correspondents report compliance with the NLC directive in Lagos, Cross River, Ebonyi, Gombe, Oyo, Ondo, Kogi and River, among other States where workers had hit the streets to press home their demands for an end to ‘hunger, poverty and insecurity’.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) across the States had promised to provide security for peaceful protesters and other law-abiding citizens during the protests even as it warned troublemakers to steer clear of the processions.

In fulfilment of its promise to create a conducive environment, the Lagos State Police Command shared bottled water and biscuits to NLC members during the ongoing protest match in Lagos.
