The commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft, Commodore Paul Nimmyel, has reaffirmed Nigerian Navy’s commitment to defending the nation’s integrity while ensuring that its operations do not infringe on the rights of civilians.
He made this assertion during a media parley held at the NNS Beecroft base in Lagos.
During his address, Commodore Nimmyel underscored the indispensable role of the media in national security and military operations.
He stated that effective collaboration between the media and the government is crucial for fostering a better society.
“We need to help the government in our reportage to enable them to effectively execute their duties in making our society a better one,” he stated.
The naval chief reassured the public that the Nigerian Navy remains committed to serving, protecting, and defending the nation rather than engaging in activities that could harm civilians.
“We are here to serve you, defend you, and not to brutalise or act against the general public’s interest,” Nimmyel declared.
