Nigerian and South African men arrested in Johannesburg hotel as police seize drugs worth over N53m

Police in Johannesburg have arrested a 48-year-old Nigerian man and a South African national, 43, for allegedly dealing in drugs. 

 

 

The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Superintendent Xolani Fihla, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, said the suspects were arrested in an operation at the Houghton Hotel.

“On 08 April 2024, a joint operation was conducted by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit and the Johannesburg Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (JHB-DPCI),” the statement read. 

 

“The operation was based on information received about suspected drug dealing activities at the Houghton Hotel in Houghton. Upon arrival, the team identified the room of interest. The male occupant of the room was found in possession of approximately 5kg of an illicit drug known as Crystal Meth.
