Niger State Government Renames Minna Airport After President Tinubu

Governor of Niger state, Umar Bago has renamed the Abubakar Imam international airport in Minna after President Bola Tinubu.

The decision comes just less than a year after the airport was renamed in honor of Abubakar Imam, a prominent Nigerian writer and journalist from Niger.

The revelation was made by Aminu Takuma, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, during a press briefing at the Government House in Minna on Sunday.

Takuma, who was represented by Isah Adamu, the Special Adviser to the governor on governance and reform, stated that the decision to rename the airport was a tribute to the significant support the state has received from President Bola Tinubu.

The governor also has extended an invitation to President Tinubu, who is expected to arrive in Minna on Monday for the launch of an agro-processing zone and the inauguration of various developmental projects within the state capital.

Takuma further disclosed that Tinubu’s itinerary would also involve the foundation laying ceremony for the new hajj terminal at the airport.

The federal government had in 2023 directed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to rename 15 federal airports after notable Nigerians, including former president Muhammadu Buhari.

The swift renaming to honor Bola Tinubu has sparked debates and discussions, raising questions about the factors influencing such decisions.
