Nasarawa Govt reaffirms commitment to workers’ welfare

The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to implementing policies that will enhance workers’ welfare and strengthen the civil service.

The state’s Head of Civil Service, Barrister Abigail Waya, made this pledge while addressing delegates at the 2025 Seventh Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Nasarawa State Council, in Lafia.

Declaring the event open on Friday, Waya stated that the government has put in place measures to ensure that civil servants enjoy uninterrupted promotion benefits, minimum wage, and capacity development opportunities.

“The government remains resolute in its determination to improve the welfare of workers. We have worked out modalities to ensure that civil servants receive their due promotion benefits, earn the minimum wage, and access training opportunities to enhance their capacity,” she said.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Manpower Development, Mrs. Belinda Oyigbenu, the Head of Service urged civil servants to uphold integrity, shun social vices, and remain committed to their duties.

In his remarks, the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Comrade Sunday Oluwole Adeleye, who was represented by the Vice President North Central and Nasarawa State Auditor General, Comrade Yusuf Sarki Iya, commended the administration for prioritizing workers’ welfare.

Chairperson of the NCSU, Nasarawa State Council, Comrade Felix Baba Ibi, highlighted the union’s achievements under his leadership, including the recovery of land belonging to the union, fostering solidarity among members, and maintaining a cordial relationship with the state government.

Also speaking, Nasarawa State NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Isma’il Oko, represented by NLC Secretary, Comrade Ahmed Mohamed Naibi, and Chairperson of the Federal Council of the Civil Service Union, North Central, Comrade Aduga Aruwa, called for unity among union members to achieve greater success.

At the conference, the incumbent executive of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Nasarawa State Council, led by Comrade Felix Baba Ibi, was returned unopposed. Others re-elected included Vice Chairpersons, Umar Shalele and Hauwa Abdulkarim; Secretary, Queen Chukwumezie; Auditor, Comrade Rayyanu Giza; and Trustee, Comrade Rosemary Agbo.

However, the positions of Treasurer and Assistant Secretary were contested, with Comrades Ibrahim Isa and Emmanuel Paul Aloko emerging winners.

The event was capped with the inauguration of the newly elected executive members, who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.
