The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has expressed outrage over the abduction of four female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, by unidentified gunmen.

In a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Amb. Mimidoo Joy Gundu, NANS described the incident as a glaring failure of Nigeria’s security system, leaving students vulnerable to attacks.

The association strongly condemned the abduction and called on the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take immediate and decisive action to safeguard students across the country.

NANS also charged security agencies, including the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Defense Headquarters, to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.

She said, “We condemn this senseless act of violence and demand that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, take immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of all students in Nigerian campuses.

“We charge the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Defense Headquarters, and other security chiefs to work tirelessly to ensure the safe return of our abducted students.

“We demand that they leave no stone unturned in their efforts to rescue our students and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The abduction of our students is a wake-up call to the Federal Government to take concrete steps to address the security challenges facing our nation. We demand that the government take immediate action to: Provide adequate security personnel and infrastructure to protect our campuses from attacks.

“Conduct thorough investigations into the abduction of our students and prosecute those found culpable.

Offer counseling and support services to the families of the abducted students and ensure their safe return.

“We urge all Nigerian students to remain calm but vigilant and to demand that their rights to safety and security are respected. We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary actions to ensure the safe return of our students.”
