Sadiq Abacha, son of the late Nigerian military Head of State, Sani Abacha, has come out in defense of his father’s legacy.

This comes after former Military President Ibrahim Babangida made claims about Abacha’s role in the annulment of the June 12 presidential election in his new autobiography, “A Journey in Service.”

In the book, Babangida alleges that Abacha, who was his Chief of Defense Staff at the time, led the forces against the June 12 election.

However, Sadiq Abacha insists that his father’s critics are motivated by envy.

“The man Abacha, you have always been the man they have envied with silent deceit. History shall remember you for being a better leader no matter how much they try to put you down,” he wrote via Facebook on Saturday.

Sadiq’s defense of his father’s legacy has sparked a heated debate about Abacha’s role in Nigerian history. While some have praised Abacha’s leadership, others have criticised his regime for human rights abuses and economic mismanagement.
