“Believe IBB’s Book And Follow Him To Damnation” – Abacha’s Grandson Fires Back

Raees Abacha, grandson of late Nigerian military Head of State, Sani Abacha, has launched a scathing attack on General Ibrahim Babangida, IBB, over claims made in his memoir, “Journey In Service”.

He accused Babangida of treachery, saying his grandfather had protected Babangida’s life and reputation on multiple occasions.

Babangida’s book has sparked intense debate about Nigeria’s political history, with the former military president alleging that Abacha was his “biggest headache” who had attempted to overthrow him through a coup.

However, Raees disputes this narrative, insisting that his grandfather was a true friend to Babangida.

Raees took to social media on Saturday to express his outrage, tweeting: “If the lifespans of these two consequential figures were reversed, this treachery would never be discharged by General Abacha.

“If we consider General Babangida’s Journey In Service (2025) as his self-written, self-describing Bible to be accepted as the truth and nothing but the truth, then any who believe it are only following its author toward damnation.”

Raees’ comments echo those of his cousin, Sadiq Abacha, who defended his father’s legacy, saying that history would ultimately judge him favourably.
