Man remanded for raping 3 varsity students during robbery

A magistrates’ court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has ordered the remand of a suspected cultist, Mubarak Issa, of Okelele area, for allegedly raping three female students of Kwara State University.

The incident occurred in their private hostel in Malete.

Issa was arraigned for offences of criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, attempt of culpable homicide, rape, armed robbery and being a member of a secret cult.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspect, 26, on 2/12/2024 at about 20:00 hrs, unlawfully entered into the dwelling house of the victims (names withheld) who are all residents of Safari area, Malete.

“You physically attacked them with dangerous weapons inflicting various degrees of grievous bodily injuries, serially have unlawful carnal knowledge with them and carted away their valuables including one iPhone 13 Promax and iPhone 11 Promax value yet to be ascertained.

“You were at the verge of killing one Yusuf Abibat inside her room before timely intervention of good Samaritans.

“Investigation revealed that you are a member of the dreaded Eiye secret cult initiated in 2020 by one Azeez aka bracket now late and with other members of your criminal gang,who are serial robbers and rapist terrorising innocent students and unsuspecting members of Malete and environs,” the sheet added.

The prosecutor, Nasiru Yusuf, urged the court to remand the suspect while Toyin Onaolapo, his counsel, countered the prayer.

Magistrate Saidu ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned the case till February 20, 2025.
