Indonesia’s Java Island was rattled by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake on Friday, as reported by the country’s geophysics agency (BMKG).

The quake struck at a depth of 10km (6.21 miles), with its epicentre located 132 km north of Tuban in East Java province.

Strong tremors were felt in various areas of East Java, including its capital Surabaya, along with cities in neighbouring provinces, as indicated by numerous social media posts from local residents.

Fortunately, the earthquake does not pose a threat of triggering a tsunami, according to BMKG. Additionally, there have been no immediate reports of damage caused by the tremor.
