Lagos State Government has ended the work-from-home arrangement for public servants, a policy introduced to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
This decision was disclosed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“It is hereby notified for general information that the governor has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service.”
The work-from-home policy was introduced in February 2024 to help civil servants cope with the financial strain caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy. Under the policy, workers on Grade Levels 01 to 14 were allowed to work from home two days a week, while those on Grade Levels 15 to 17 were granted one remote workday weekly.
According to Agoro, the cancellation of remote work aligns with the implementation of the new minimum wage for public servants and is aimed at improving service delivery across government establishments.
The termination comes shortly after the Lagos State Government approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for its civil servants. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the new wage structure on October 17, 2024, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare.
He explained that the remote work policy, which began in February 2024, will officially be discontinued in March 31, 2025.
“The cancellation of the work-from-home initiative, which has been in place since February 2024, will take effect on March 31,” he addressed.
Public servants were encouraged to refocus on their responsibilities to ensure greater efficiency and productivity across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Agoro urged Accounting Officers to circulate the directive widely to ensure all employees are informed.
