Kogi: 6 students, driver killed as trailer rams into university shuttle bus

Six students of Federal University of Lokoja and a driver lost their lives as a vehicles rammed into a university shuttle bus conveying students to the institution’s Felele campus in Lokoja.


An eye witness account said the accident occurred at about 2.30 pm on Monday afternoon and six students, including the driver of the shuttle bus lost their lives.


The source, Suleiman Ovurevu,  stated that  the articulated vehicle was carrying woods and hundreds of Jerry can of palm oil heading to Abuja axis when the driver lost control and rammed into the shuttle bus already filled up with students.

The shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicle as motorists and passengers travelling along the high way were stranded.


However, officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were on hand to rescue some victims that were trapped under the articulated vehicle.


The Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, who led the team to the scene of the accident told newsmen that he couldn’t give actual number of those that lost their lives.


He however stated those that were injured have been moved to Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and Kogi state Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for treatment, while corpses of those that died  have been deposited in the morgue of the hospitals for identification.
