A devastating fire has resulted in the destruction of 103 foodstuff shops in Gusau market, located in Zamfara State.
Reports indicate that the food items destroyed were perishable goods. As of now, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, one of the individuals involved in extinguishing the fire told Daily Trust that electricity was closely linked to the incident, as the fire broke out shortly after power was restored in the market.
The fire started around 10:30 PM last Sunday night and burned for a long time before it was successfully extinguished at around 2:00 AM.
The chairman of the foodstuff sellers’ association, Alhaji Inusa Saminu, said that the fire outbreak was severe, and the total financial losses have yet to be determined. He added that the delayed arrival of firefighters contributed to the extent of the losses they suffered.
