Rap icon ‘Jay-Z’ and his wife, prominent singer ‘Beyoncé’ have been targeted with death threats following a now-dismissed lawsuit that accused him of sexual misconduct.
Jay-Z, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, was accused by an anonymous woman of drugging and assaulting her at an after-party for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13.
However, the lawsuit was thrown out last week. Despite this, Jay-Z is moving forward with legal action against the accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, claiming emotional distress.
In a sworn statement obtained the Roc Nation founder expressed the impact the allegations had on him and his family, citing numerous threats. “People have said ‘I can’t wait until you join (Combs) in prison. Then later in hell.’
“Other comments have accused me of being a ‘satanist’, a ‘trafficker’, a ‘terrorist’, and a ‘monster’, called me the N-word and threatened violence against me and my wife, including to ‘kill’ or ‘execute’ us.”
Jay-Z, who shares three children with Beyoncé, also revealed he suffered significant financial losses due to the lawsuit, estimating a $20 million decline in business contracts since the accusations surfaced in October 2024.
He further alleged that the case was strategically filed the night before his daughter’s movie premiere for Mufasa: The Lion King to pressure him into a difficult choice between his family and his public image.
Jay-Z initially sued Buzbee for civil extortion, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, but only recently submitted his declaration to the court.
“I felt that Mr. Buzbee was placing a gun to my head that I either bow to his demands or endure personal and financial ruin,” he said.
Following the lawsuit’s dismissal, Jay-Z denounced the allegations as baseless and emphasized the toll they took on his family. “Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere.”
“The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed,” he said.
“The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence. May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally,” Jay-Z addressed.
Buzbee’s legal team, which has filed multiple lawsuits against Diddy on behalf of over 100 alleged victims, has yet to comment on Jay-Z’s latest legal actions.
