As Nigerians began to react to the confession of the former Military President Ibrahim Babangida’s confession in his book that the late MKO Abiola actually won the June 12, 1993 presidential election which he annulled, Senior Pastor of The Second Coming Of Christ’s Ministry, Adewale Giwa has said the confession came too late.
He said Babangida only confessed but did not regret his action as he didn’t apologies to Nigerians.
The cleric, who stated this on Friday on a radio programme in Akure, Ondo State capital, queried why the former head of the Military juntas decided to own up that the candidate of Social Democratic Party(SDP) won the election when the man had died in incarceration.
Giwa said: “IBB only confessed his sin, but He never asked Nigerians for forgiveness. It’s unfortunate that most of our political leaders don’t think about legacies they leave behind.
“As it is, they only think about how to pursue or satisfy their interests, forgetting that you brought nothing to this world, and you go with nothing. The Lord will ask you on the judgment day to produce a record of your stewardship.
“God hates injustice and oppression. The evil and atrocities you commit will definitely speak after you must have departed this world.
“History will judge everyone accordingly, and a nation that forgets its past has no future. If I were one of the invited guests, I would have vacated the venue immediately after the statement was made.
“The confession of IBB is coming late. I wonder what could have kept him so long to admit publicly that MKO actually won the 1993 election after 31 years.
“If IBB had addressed the fact that the MKO won the 1993 election, how would he also address the circumstances that led to his death? We should not forget very quickly that the man in question, MKO, was arrested, jailed, and killed in the process of retrieving his mandate. His wife was also killed in the process.
“In fact, those behind the 1993 annulment have a series of questions to answer. Why should you kill just because you want to continue to hold on to power? Why? Those who kill by the sword will definitely die by the sword.
“IBB had every opportunity and power to declare the late MKO winner of the 1993 election, but he didn’t do so.
“Why now? Why the confession? What for?
“MKO is dead and can not rise up to get his mandate back.”
It would be recalled that besides MKO Abiola and his wife, Kudirat who was assassinated, numerous Nigerians paid the Supreme price during various protests for validation of the election results.
