Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman was phenomenal on Sunday for Atalanta, as he scored a sensational brace within 12 minutes against Empoli after the post-Champions League controversy.

Even after being publicly criticized by Gian Piero Gasperini after he missed a penalty against Club Brugge, the Nigerian displayed his A- Game at the Castellani.

In the 43rd minute, Lookman on one-on-one with Empoli’s goalkeeper, netted a goal with a precise right-footed shot from close range. Thanks to Retegui’s assist, Lookman skillfully dodged Silvestri and slotted the ball home.

Showing his class and efficiency, the Nigerian talent struck again in the 55th minute, leaving Empoli’s defenders speechless.

With 36 goals and still counting, Lookman overtakes Simy Nwankwo to become the second all-time highest-scoring Nigerian in Serie A, behind Victor Osimhen with 65 goals.

Meanwhile, according to Opta Paolo, Lookman, with 12 goals in the current league season, is the first player to score more than 10 goals in each of the last three Serie A campaigns (since 2022/23).
