The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has emerged as a beacon of ethical excellence, securing an 84.68% score in the 2024 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The remarkable achievement places the Council at the top of the Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy, reaffirming its dedication to transparency, accountability, and global best practices in port operations.
In an official commendation, the ICPC lauded the NSC for fostering a corruption-free environment, implementing efficient operational systems, and ensuring that Nigeria’s port services meet international standards. The Council’s commitment to ethical governance, the commission noted, has created a work culture rooted in integrity and professionalism, making it a model institution within the nation’s maritime industry.
This success is a direct reflection of the visionary leadership of Dr. Akutah Ukeyima, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the NSC, who has championed reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, streamlining regulatory processes, and promoting a more transparent and competitive shipping industry. Under his stewardship, the Council has intensified efforts to eliminate bottlenecks, curb corrupt practices, and create a more business-friendly maritime sector.
The NSC’s commitment to modernizing port operations has led to significant improvements in productivity, service delivery, and stakeholder confidence. By embracing digitalization, strengthening regulatory oversight, and fostering partnerships with key industry players, the Council is paving the way for a more robust and globally competitive maritime sector.
