Hand2Hand Sports Foundation enlists 9 more indigent kids

Nine more indigent teenagers (four girls and five boys) residing in the suburbs of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been enrolled into the Scholarship Programme of the Hand2Hand Sports Foundation.

The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) founded by a former handball star, Richard Agbonifo, is championing a crusade of giving less privileged children in the society, a lease of life through education and sports.

The addition of the nine new kids brings to 18 the total number of children of primary and Secondary School age, enjoying the scheme which officials say scouts for less privileged children and ensure that they are mentored to excel in their academics just as those gifted in the area of sports are encouraged to pursue their dreams.

A volunteer, Edith Anum-Oku, who is a member of the Scholarship Sub-Committee said the beneficiaries were picked directly from the streets, or referred to the NGO.

At the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the foundation which was held over the weekend in Abuja, some of the mothers who accompanied the kids were told of the compelling need to have children develop in their academics, physical and psychomotor (sports).

The event was graced by Dr. Lydia Gbagi, a friend of the Hand2 Hand Foundation, and a Director at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC); and Mallam Hashimu Adamu, the Director School Sports, in the FCT Secondary Education Board.

This year’s activities will be rounded off on Thursday, April 18, with a Cadet Handball Tournament for Under 12 and 15 Boys and Girls Girls, at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
