A teacher with the Federal Government Girls’ College, Benin, Mr Jatto Agholor, has been exonerated from a sexual harassment allegation by an investigation committee set up by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The investigation panel was set up by the Ministry a few weeks ago in response to a sexual harassment allegation against the teacher.

A statement from the Ministry on Thursday indicated that the investigation into the allegations has been concluded, and the accused was found innocent of the allegation.

The statement, which was signed by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, confirmed that a thorough investigation was done regarding the allegation, which culminated in the acquittal of the accused.

It said: “Following a thorough review of the case, it was established that the case in question was not one of sexual harassment, but an issue of high-handedness in classroom management, which was initially misrepresented.

“The preliminary findings indicated that Mr Jatto was on prep supervision duty at the time of the incident and was responding to a rowdy classroom situation. The final findings of the investigation will be officially announced in due course.”

The statement further indicated that the school principal has been summoned to the Ministry headquarters in Abuja for further clarification.

The statement reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and upholding the integrity of educational institutions across the country, and urged the public to exercise patience and await the final investigation.
