A devastating road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of nine individuals, with three others sustaining injuries.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, near Ayetoro.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash happened at approximately 5:30 a.m, involving a Toyota bus with registration number UYY165ZY and a stationary truck with plate number DKA244XC. Reports indicate that the bus driver, allegedly fatigued and speeding, lost control and crashed into the parked truck.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area.
Spokesperson for the Ogun FRSC, Florence Okpe, confirmed that “A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 03 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.
“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue in Sagamu.”
Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, expressed concern over the continued disregard for traffic safety regulations by some drivers. He emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and taking mandatory breaks during long journeys to prevent fatigue-related accidents.
He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged them to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further information regarding the incident.
