FG urged to give free sanitary pads to female students

The federal and state governments have been urged to provide free sanitary pads and clean water for female students in public schools to boost their education participation and promote national health.

The Executive Director and Founder of Shades of Us, Ramatu Adda Ochekliye, gave the charge in Abuja at the Film Premier of a short film on ‘Period Poverty and Shame, Flow’ themed “African Royalty”.

The event organised for females and young ladies, including representatives from some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Abuja was to create awareness on the monthly menstrual flow of young women and their well beings.

“We had a research and during the pre and post-test, most people agreed that pads should be free products that are given in schools. It is not something that schools can do themselves, but the government has the power to mandate a law or statement that allows things like this to happen.”
