FG Pays N2.75bn Compensation To Affected Property Owners

The federal government has paid a compensation amounting to N2.75 billion to property owners whose properties was within the first 3km of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.

The compensation to the affected areas spans from channel 0 to channel 3km along the gazetted right-of-way that had been marked for demolition even as the federal government reclaims shorelines, beachfronts and other property along the gazetted routes.

The minister of Works, Engr, David Umahi, while addressing a press briefing with stakeholders and property owners evacuated from the corridors, lauded the federal government’s efforts in showing clemency with the prompt payment of adequate compensation to the affected structures along the gazetted right-of-way.

Umahi clarified that the project will open up the economy for foreign direct investment, improve GDP growth, stimulate momentum for industrial growth, estate development and also opening of more corridors for business expansion.

He affirmed that the federal government has fulfilled it’s promise in line with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu renewed Hope agenda to link coastal roads and super highways into six geopolitical zones through the National Road Network Programmme.
