FCCPC To Review Planned DStv, GOtv Subscription Hike

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced that it will review the planned price hikes of DStv and GOtv packages, ensuring that Nigerian subscribers receive fair value.

This comes in response to MultiChoice’s announcement of new price adjustments for its packages across Sub-Saharan Africa, effective May 1, 2024.

“The recent price increases by MultiChoice will be thoroughly examined by relevant stakeholders,” said Adamu Abdullahi, acting CEO of the FCCPC, during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s current affairs show, ‘Dateline Abuja’.

MultiChoice cited rising operational costs as the reason for the price adjustments, which will see the DStv Premium package increase from N29,500 to N37,000, and the Compact Plus package from N19,800 to N25,000.

In the same interview, Abdullahi also provided an update on the ongoing investigation into a Chinese Supermarket in Abuja, accused of discriminatory practices and sharp practices.

“We have issued a summons to the owner of the store as part of our investigation,” he explained.

Regarding the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Abdullahi confirmed the FCCPC’s commitment to enforcing compliance with its regulations. “Sanctions are imminent for all verified infractions,” he asserted, underscoring the agency’s resolve to uphold consumer rights.
