A former number one goalkeeper for Green Eagles in the 1980s, Etta Egbe has called on the Cross  River  State female football team,  Pelican Stars FC to also present their peculiar challenges to the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu for attention.

Last week, the commissioner for sports development in the state, Agnes Atsu led the state-owned male football team, Rovers FC on a visit to the governor where they reeled out their numerous challenges.

In response, the governor raised their monthly subvention from N5m to N10m in addition to a promise of brand new bus and other interventions.

Egbe, a former coach of Rovers FC, encouraged Pelican Stars FC which has also been plagued by assorted challenges to equally take their troubles to the governor whom he described as sport-loving.

“I’m of the belief that if they also arrange a visit, our sports loving governor will equally give them a listening ear.

“Rovers FC were lucky because they presented their challenges to the governor who didn’t waste time to address them.”

Egbe called on investors and businessmen to reduce the burden of running sports, particularly football, off the shoulders of government.
