EPL: Sheffield Utd deducted two points for defaulting on payments

Premier League club Sheffield United’s next Championship season will begin with a minus-two-point deduction after an independent disciplinary commission of the English Football League found them guilty of defaulting on some payments they owed to other clubs last season.

Another two-point deduction has been held off until the end of the approaching season and will only come into effect should the Blades default again.

The EFL claims that Sheffield United “defaulted for over 550 days,” and as a result, the club agreed to finance the league’s costs, amounting to £310,455.

The Blades, who were promoted to the Premier League last season, are nearing the end of a dreadful campaign and are an additional nine points behind safety with seven games remaining.
