National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has charged the federal government to address the lingering scarcity of petrol in the country.

NANS in a statement issued yesterday by its senate president, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, demanded immediate resolution of the fuel crisis and restore stability in the supply chain.

He also spoke on the worrisome electricity supply culminating in prices of goods going out of the reach of most Nigerians.

The association lamented that the development had paralysed business activities.

Afeez said Nigerian students and other stakeholders demand for accountability and information on the state of fuel supply and distribution in the country.

He also expressed concern over the failure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) under the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who oversees the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to make fuel available in the country.

He said, “Nigerian students have never witnessed such prolonged shortage and disruptions to fuel supply and we refuse to accept this as the new normal.

“Nigerian students cannot afford to suffer any longer under ineffective leadership. If the NNPCL fails to act swiftly and decisively to address the fuel crisis, Nigerian students are prepared for mass action.

“It is time for the NNPCL to fulfill its mandate and prioritise the wellbeing of Nigerians. The future of our nation depends on it,” he said.
