DSS, Police storm Cross River Assembly over Speaker’s impeachment

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, on Wednesday invaded the Cross Rivers State Assembly Complex, following the impeachment of the Speaker, Elvert Anyambem.

Anyambem’s impeachment had led to a brawl in the House.

The former Speaker who represents Ikom 2 State Constituency in the Assembly was impeached by 17 members of the House.

His impeachment was based on alleged misappropriation of funds.

Members of the Assembly had complained about the Speaker’s behaviour and the way the Assembly was run.

After impeaching him, the mace was taken away by the members.
