Cesc Fabregas has shared his thoughts on Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea departure insisting he “didn’t see it coming.”

Chelsea announced Pochettino’s departure on Tuesday evening following an end of season review with the club’s hierarchy after just one season in charge.

It had been an up and down campaign for the Argentine, but after a poor start he oversaw a huge improvement during the second half of the season which ended with the Blues winning five games in a row to secure a top six finish and a return to European competition.

Pochettino’s departure whilst not entirely unexpected has been widely condemned as the wrong thing to do, with many former players and pundits expressing how they don’t understand the decision.

The players were known to be admirers of the 52-year-old and you only have to look at their messages of thanks on social media to see how much they enjoyed working under him.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry said he was “gutted” by the decision whilst Ashley Cole admitted it left him feeling a bit sad.

Fabregas expressed his surprise at Pochettino’s departure from Chelsea.

Another former player Fabregas, who visited Chelsea’s Cobham training ground last Friday has stated he didn’t see the decision coming.

“I just popped in and he (Pochettino) welcomed me so much, I stayed one and a half hours in his office talking football, obviously talking to some of the people that I know working at the club, so I was seeing some ex-teammates as well, so it was really fun and I really enjoyed it”, he told Planet Premier League.

“To be fair, I didn’t have the feeling that this was going to happen, just looking around and the feel you have around the place, I felt it was nice and easy.

“So yeah, I was surprised about the decision to be fair.”
