Deputy gov’s first responsibility is to be loyal – Omobayo

Marvellous Omobayo, the new Deputy Governor of Edo State, has said the first responsibility of a deputy governor is to be loyal to his principal.

Omobayo stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday.

A Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, Governor Godwin Obaseki was picked by the governor to deputize him after the state assembly impeached the former deputy governor, Philips Shaibu.

During the interview, Omobayo said his emergence as the state deputy governor is a win for Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State, saying they were marginalised.

He said, “What happened between Governor Godwin and Philips Shaibu is politics. But your first responsibility as a deputy governor is to be loyal. I am very happy as my local government is happy and the whole of Edo State is happy.

“I am only interested in myself. I don’t want to speak about Obaseki and his former deputy. For me it is a total win for the zone I came from. The region had been marginalized.  And having worked with Obaseki before, I believe strongly that getting this job has propelled me my chances.”

Omobayo added his emergence as the deputy governor of the state was from God.

He added that both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) contacted, but he chose to join the PDP.
