Delta State Government has frowned at the attitude of dropping waste on the road median, inside drainage as well as the blockage it causes to free-flow of water, especially when it rains.

The Director General, Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, DSCTDA, Hon. Patrick Ukah, expressed the displeasure during the inspection of residential and business premises within the capital territory and its environs.

Ukah warned residents and business owners to desist from such act, warning of the plans to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in accordance with the provisions of the law.

He further stated that the Magistrates at Mobile Courts have commenced prosecution of landlords, occupiers and business owners of premises that contravene the state’s sanitation laws.

Ukah advised residents, traders, business owners, tricycle drivers and other critical stakeholders to cooperate with the inspection/enforcement teams, noting that the exercise will continuous towards the environmental sustainability of the state capital and its environs.

“The attitude is not appreciating the work of the government. We have unconventional way to deal with such people. Since they do it in the dark, we too will deal with them in such way. We must make the state beautiful.

“My pain is people dumping the waste. We even noticed property developers blocking the drainage with sand and stones which they dump on the roads and gutters. We even gave notice but they do not comply. The next thing to do is to issue bench warrant,” Ukah warned.

The DG appealed to residents to register with waste managers and promised to sanction any defaulting waste manager.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation Bureau, (DSOB), Barr Latimore Oghenesivbe, has appealed to journalists in the state to partner with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration on cities beautification and cleanliness advocacy.
