Crisis hits Benue assembly, 13 lawmakers suspended

The Benue state House of Assembly, Wednesday, suspended 13 of its members from legislative duties for three months due to their involvement in what it described as dishonorable acts.

The suspension was announced Wednesday following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr. Saater Tiseer, during a plenary session in Makurdi.

The motion was seconded by Mr. Peter Ipusu, who described the actions of the suspended members as “outright mischief.”

Ipusu said the members had actively participated in the debate and voted in favour of recommending the removal of the Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, but later denied their involvement in the process.

The suspended members include: Mr. Douglas Akya (APC/Makurdi South), Mr. Jonanthan Agbidye (APC/Katsina-Ala East), Mrs. Beckie Orpin (APC/Gboko East), Mr. Simon Gabo (APC/Mata), Mr. William Ortyom (PDP/Agasha), and Mr. Emmanuel Onah (PDP/Oju I),

Others wrre Mr. Elias Audu (APC/Gwer East), Mr. Anyor Matu (APC/Kwande East), Mr. Manger Manger (APC/Tarka), Mr. Solomon Gyila (APC/Gwer West), Mr. Samuel Agada (APC/Ogbadibo), Mr. Abraham Jabi (APC/Buruku), and Mr. Ezra Nyiyongo (APC/Ukum).

The speaker of the House, Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh, directed the suspended members to refund the funds given to them for a foreign trip by the Ministry of Finance.
