Britain Blocks Entry For Kremlin-Linked Individuals Under Fresh Sanctions

3 hours ago 18

The United Kingdom is set to impose a ban on individuals who have significant ties to the Russian state or have amassed their wealth through it. The new sanctions, to be announced on Monday, coincide with the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to the UK government, the ban will extend to individuals with access to Russia’s highest levels of power, including senior politicians, government officials, and business figures. The measures are designed to complement Britain’s existing sanctions against Russian elites who have been accused of supporting President Vladimir Putin’s war effort.

British Security Minister Dan Jarvis issued a clear warning to Moscow’s political and financial elite, stating, “You are not welcome in the UK.” He added that the new measures would “slam the door shut to the oligarchs who have enriched themselves at the expense of the Russian people whilst bankrolling this illegal and unjustifiable war.”

The announcement comes as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer prepares to visit Washington on Thursday for discussions with US President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine. Starmer’s visit follows that of French President Emmanuel Macron, who will meet with Trump at the White House on Monday.

Both European leaders are expected to urge Trump not to hastily negotiate a ceasefire with Putin, stressing the importance of keeping Europe involved in the process. Additionally, discussions will likely focus on military guarantees for Ukraine, ensuring continued Western support in its fight against Russian aggression.

The UK’s latest sanctions reinforce its commitment to isolating Russian elites who have benefitted from their ties to the Kremlin while the war in Ukraine continues.
