The Prelate of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika, has sounded the alarm, stating that conflicts, insurrection, and banditry pose significant threats to Nigeria’s peaceful coexistence.

Addressing the audience during the induction ceremony and launch of a scholarship scheme for peace practitioners in Nigeria, organised by the Institute for Universal Harmony (TIFUH in collaboration with the University of Calabar, the Prelate emphasised the urgent need for Nigerians and their leaders to unite in the face of these challenges and actively engage in peace-building efforts.

“Proliferation of conflicts has gravely imperiled our nation’s stability. It is imperative that we collectively advocate for peace, as it is the cornerstone of our national progress,” he said.

He urged the inductees to embrace their roles as ambassadors of peace, both domestically and internationally, emphasising the pivotal role they play in fostering harmony within society.

Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. King Charles Bassey, the International President of the Institute for Universal Harmony (TIFUH), underscored the responsibility of citizens to champion peace advocacy initiatives. He reiterated that sustainable development and societal advancement are unattainable amidst conflict and strife, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to champion peace-building efforts across communities.
