Following Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Celta Vigo, manager Carlo Ancelotti has argued La Liga has more tactical quality than the Premier League.
Despite the influx of top players and managers into the Premier League, Ancelotti believes that La Liga maintains a higher standard in terms of tactics.
While acknowledging the intensity of the Premier League, he emphasized the superior tactical quality of La Liga.
“It’s different. This doesn’t mean better or worse. There are less tactics. On a tactical level, La Liga is much better than the English one.
“If we talk about intensity, rhythm, the English league may have more. But the Spanish has more tactical quality,” Ancelotti insists.
The discussion around the tactical differences between the two leagues comes amidst concerns in Spain about La Liga’s competitiveness in Europe.
With several Spanish teams facing early exits from European competitions, there are growing fears that La Liga is falling behind other leagues.
Real Madrid remains the only Spanish team in contention for a quarter-final spot in any European competition.
