The Senate has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months over the controversy on the 2023 budget.

Ningi had said there was another budget different from what was passed on the floor of the National Assembly.

Speaking as a guest during an interview with BBC on Saturday, the Senator disclosed that the Northern elite is not happy with this government as the North has been neglected.

He said, “This is true (about the review of the government) for the past three months, we have engaged consultants to review the budget for us. We have some experts that are working on it line by line. We have seen the huge damage that was done not only to the north but the entire country in that budget. We are supposed to sit with the Senate President to inform him about what we have observed.”

But after a rowdy session at the senate on Tuesday, the Senator representing Bauchi central was suspended.

The Senate has suspended Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central senatorial district, for three months.

Ningi was suspended following his allegation of N3.7 trillion budget padding in an interview with BBC Hausa.

Ningi on Monday denied some of the claims in the interview, saying he was qouted out of context.

Before Ningi’s suspension, angry senators were engaged in a debate on the allegation which threw the Red Chamber into a rowdy session.
