Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has allocated a N1.3 billion scholarship fund for 997 nursing and midwifery students who are indigenes of the state.

The governor disclosed this yesterday during the launch of the scholarship programme in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He said the programme initially received 1,080 nominations, with 40 candidates selected from each of the 27 local government areas.

Following an entrance examination, 997 successful candidates were chosen to benefit from the scholarship.

Zulum emphasized that this initiative aims to address the growing workforce demand for healthcare services due to the state’s increasing population.

The scholarship budget, he said, included N124,149,000 for tuition fees, while the remaining N1,181,040,000 would be disbursed as a monthly stipend of N30,000 to each student throughout their studies.
