The win ensures Leverkusen’s place in the DFB Pokal final, where they will face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in May.

Meanwhile, the game marked the return of Nigeria’s star forward Boniface, who has been sidelined for four months due to adductor muscle injury.

Boniface came in as a substitute in the 65th minute, replacing Patrik Schick.

His last game for the German giants was in a similar 4-0 win over Bochum in the Bundesliga on 12 December 2023.
