A former Vice President and presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections, Atiku Abubakar, has returned to Nigeria ahead of the long-awaited National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.

Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who confirmed the development to Daily Trust, stated that Atiku was obligated to attend the NEC meeting as a member, stakeholder and member of the caucus.

Ibe explained that Atiku was out of the country for his annual vacation, which he had been unable to take due to the last elections and subsequent litigations.

Describing the April 18, NEC meeting as crucial, Ibe said, “It is coming after the 2023 general elections and offers the party an opportunity for a review and to chart a way forward as it seeks to put its house in order.”

Atiku’s early return from his overseas trip is reportedly aimed at meeting with other NEC members and stakeholders to forge a common front before the actual NEC meeting on April 18.
