The Akwa-Ibom State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim and recovered his stolen vehicle in a tactical operation in the Ikot Ekpene area of the state.

DSP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Saturday.

John stated that on February 13, the command received information about a man who had been kidnapped along Okop Eto road and taken to an unknown location by the abductors.

“Based on credible intelligence, operatives of the command immediately swung into action and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.

“The hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed.

“The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered and has since been reunited with his family,” she said.

She noted that items recovered during the operation included an ash-coloured Lexus RX 350 SUV.

She also mentioned that efforts are in full swing to track down and capture the fleeing suspects.

The police spokesperson stated that investigations are underway to recover the weapons used in the crime and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

She also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom Command, Baba Azare, has praised the officers for their swift response.
