Abducted Chinese Regains Freedom In Kwara

Kwara State Police Command has rescued a Chinese national, Mr PengChao Zhang, who was recently kidnapped in Eyenkorin, a suburb of Ilorin, the state capital.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement yesterday, said the Chinese national  was rescued on Monday by  the command’s team and vigilantes.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the Chinese was kidnapped at a guest house in  Eyenkorin, on March 10, 2024 by gunmen.

Ejire-Adeyemi said that the man had been reunited with his family unharmed, adding that the success of the rescue operation underscored the commitment of the state police command to ensuring safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state.

“Kwara State Police Command is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in the recent kidnap incident that occurred in Eiyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State. On the 10th of March, 2024, six armed men forcefully abducted Mr PengChao Zhang (also known as Williams Kaka amongst his business associates), a Chinese national who lodged at Cherish Guest House Eiyenkorin, Ilorin, sparking concerns and fear within the community.

“Through diligent and coordinated efforts, the Command’s Tactical Teams and vigilante executed a series of strategic search and investigation leading to the safe rescue of the victim in the early hours of 19th March, 2024.

“The command is pleased to confirm that the victim has since been reunited with his family unharmed. This achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state.

“The Kwara State Police Command, under the undaunted and excellent leadership of the  commissioner of police,  CP Victor Olaiya remains steadfast in pursuing justice and holding accountable those responsible for such criminal acts. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly,” she added.
